Abstract
  • Although the church congregation promises to pray for them, many persons in physical crisis (cancer) still feel unsupported. A self-help support group in the parish setting would assist in giving the needed support. The author made use of her own experiences in leading cancer support groups, the resources of the Christian faith, and the results of a pilot cancer support group conducted in a church setting to write a guide for establishing such support groups in a parish setting. Very strong bonding within the pilot support group occurred. All but one participant said that they had shared something within the group that had never been shared with anyone previously.
