- Abstract
- Pastor nominating committee members have an unconscious image of a suitable pastor for their church which affects their hiring decision. These suitability images contain non-task oriented factors. Interviews with pastor nominating committee members reveal that the impact of suitability factors on the ultimate decision is not discussed. In interviews with former pastor nominating committee members, task-oriented factors were not given as a prime factor in hiring. Non-task oriented suitability factors were suggested as major concerns. This information coincides with psychological research by Cash, Berscheid, and Walster, whose work includes comprehensive experiments on the effects of attractiveness on human interaction.
