Abstract
  • The thesis of this project is that it is possible to develop a plan for the effective and appropriate use of video illustrations in sermons. A review of literature in postmodern and emerging church ministry, in communication and learning theory, and in contemporary homiletics is compared with biblical evidence about the roles and purposes of illustrations in preaching. A survey of pastors is conducted to discover homiletical, technical, and theological guidelines for the use of video clips in sermons. When video illustrations follow guidelines for communicating the truth of Scripture, they must be used in sermons.
