Abstract
  • This thesis is an integrative essay involving Viktor Frankl's assumptions of logotherapy, Erik Erikson's epigenetic life cycle theory, and Robert Butler's principle of life review as a therapeutic modality. Working from a meaning orientation, an integrating modality is developed following Erikson's theory in which the polarities of the final stage are seen as ego integrity or despair. As the past is reviewed the meaning of various situations and events can be reorganized and reintegrated into a more valid picture, giving new meaning to one's life and allowing the sense of ego integrity. Methodology for life review therapy is included.
