Abstract
  • This mixed design study with a phenomenological emphasis sought to discovered why the disabled do not attend and participate in North American churches. The researcher designed a virtual community, 'Sawubona.' The participants discussed their interactions with the church. This dialogue identified perceived and real exclusions and discovered practical strategies that both the disabled and local churches can use to improve participation. Participants were interviewed before and after the project to gain insight into their experiences with participating in churches. The post project interviews indicated an increase in church related activity and acceptance from local churches for all participants.
