Abstract
  • This project proposes to encourage discipleship among new members of First Baptist Church in Post, Texas, by emphasizing their experience of believer's baptism. Beginning with a counseling session prior to baptism, candidates receive instruction about discipleship and the meaning of baptism and are prepared to testify concerning their experience of Christ. At baptism they are presented to the church and offered fellowship. Prayer and Scripture reading intensify the spiritual experience of baptism. Church members assist in the baptism, expressing the church's care for new members. Sermons periodically reinforce the biblical understanding of baptism for church members. The project surveys members and baptismal candidates to evaluate the effectiveness of the program.
