- Tice United Methodist Church experienced a steady decline in membership and participation in ministry. Revitalization efforts through lay witness missions, renewal services, and many fellowship opportunities failed. This project invited individuals to participate in a study of the spiritual disciplines of solitude and silence. The goal was to discover if the use of silence and solitude would lead to a more healthy community life. The findings of the composite case studies indicated that participants did improve their devotional lives and consequently their relationship with God and with each other. A common theme among the participants was that of discovering a kindred spirit among them.
