The thesis of this paper is that Protap Chunder Mozoomdar (1840-1905) was the first cultural ambassador of India to America. The context is the 19th century East-West encounter of religions. The paper focuses on the interaction between the Brahmo Samaj of India and American Unitarianism. Its methodology is historical-phenomenological. It concludes that Mozoomdar's visits in 1883, 1893 and 1900 as a missionary of the New Dispensation evoked considerable response in America.
