Abstracto

This project seeks to determine and replicate qualities of effective communication in preaching. The project surveys 35 ministers and laypersons concerning effective preaching and the specific preaching events that they remember best. Members of Grace United Methodist Church (Piqua, Ohio) evaluate six sermons in the framework of Scripture and stated behavioral purposes. Preaching that is focused and transparently sincere, employing a narrative format that hearers can visualize and 'live in,' is effective and reproducible.
