Abstract
  • An educational experience was created for elders and deacons so that they are prepared to minister with terminally ill persons. A theological understanding of life, death and ministry was developed from biblical and secular sources. Divided into six sessions, the educational experience utilized group discussion, audio-visual presentations, simulations, and visitation. Templer's 'Death Anxiety Scale' and subjective self-reporting were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the educational experience. The results showed that those with an initially high death anxiety experienced a decrease in anxiety, while the opposite was true for those with an initially low death anxiety.
