Abstract
  • This project analyzed models for church transition after the retirement of a long-tenured pastor. Chapter two examined the biblical material pertaining to transition. Chapter three presented various leadership and personality styles of pastors to understand how these factors affect transition. Chapter four examined models of church transition. The transitional Baptist model was examined along with models used by different denominations. The effectiveness of two other models (First Baptist Church, Dallas Texas, and Shades Mountain Baptist Church, Birmingham, Alabama/First Baptist Church, Carrollton, Texas) was evaluated. Chapter five drew conclusions from the study and recommendations were made for congregations considering pastoral transition.
