Abstract
  • This work has investigated the pastoral identity of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America pastoral psychotherapists who are diplomates in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. The conclusions of the study were that these pastors have a strong sense of call, have a strong relationship with their ecclesiastical body, and do their specialized ministry as a continuing incarnation of Christ. These specialists do not decrease in pastoral identity while in specialized ministry. For this group pastoral identity was not affected by the type of ministry, pastoral psychotherapy.
