This project focused on the Indian Pentecostal Diaspora in Chicagoland and evaluated the issue of an increasing number of 2nd generation Indian American Pentecostals leaving the Indian Pentecostal Diaspora churches in Chicago. As part of this project, I conducted an online survey of forty-seven people and interviewed ten people from the 2nd generation Indian Pentecostal diaspora to identify the reasons related to their leaving their respective churches. The study was done over two months, and the results provided a better understanding of the issues contributing to their decision. The survey revealed that the lack of spiritual growth, church politics, and lifestyle issues such as lack of role models and emphasis against wearing jewelry were the primary reasons for the 2nd generation leaving the Indian Pentecostal diaspora churches in Chicagoland. The study results also showed that while most of those who left the Indian Pentecostal diaspora churches in Chicago still identified as Pentecostals, they chose to attend ‘non-denominational’ churches regularly. Most respondents agreed that they missed the community aspect of the Indian Pentecostal church but concluded that they would not return to an Indian Pentecostal Church in the future. The results of this project provide the data that will help the Indian Pentecostal Churches in Chicagoland better understand the thought process behind the silent exodus of the 2nd generation from their Churches.
