Abstract
  • This project expands the responsibility of the laity for ministry in First Christian Church (Disciples), Kenton, Ohio. Groups for lay ministry were projected in the areas of evangelism, pastoral care (elders), and church hospitality (deacons, deaconesses, ushers). Rigorous training was planned and executed for each of these groups, their function was supervised, and its impact monitored through a period of seven months. The training encountered a reluctance in the hospitality group. The implementation experienced a hesitancy in the pastoral care group. The project brought an enhanced perspective on ministry to the congregation and its pastor.
