Abstract

This project seeks to lead the members of Riverside Baptist Church to identify social problems in their immediate community and to respond to the discovered problems. The response to the problems will be practical application of the biblical principles of Christian social involvement. Specifically, an attempt will be made to lead an urban church in decline to become revitalized and to grow spiritually and numerically by developing and implementing an after-school ministry program. This program will address the spiritual, emotional, educational, and physical needs of elementary aged children in the Riverside area of Fort Worth, Texas. The children will be recruited from Oakhurst Elementary School in cooperation with the principal and the administration. A group of approximately twelve people will be led through an awareness and training program to help them see the need for and to equip them for a ministry of this kind. At the end of the training session the church body will be presented with an opportunity to implement this program as a part of its ongoing outreach ministries.
