Abstracto

Numerous reports of clergy stress and burnout across denominational lines are rampant. One solution has been to prescribe the spiritual practice of Sabbath-keeping. Unfortunately, this raises multiple issues for the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) pastor. Therefore, the central question that guided this project was: How do SDA pastors practice and experience the Sabbath? The goal was to gain a thick, in-depth description of Sabbath-keeping. In order to accomplish this the project's strategy was rooted in a phenomenological form of research, namely the qualitative interview. For the SDA pastor's interviewed, the Sabbath was experienced as a paradox: stressful but restful, draining yet energizing.
