Abstract
  • The project studied the relocation of United Methodist congregations. Research entailed interviewing five churches that had been at their previous sites at least 75 years and had moved to their current sites in the past 25 years. Relocated congregations differ significantly from new church starts and have important dynamics of congregational identity, tradition and specific cultural settings which affect their ministries. Three conditions which can precipitate relocation include growth, decline and disaster.
