Abstract
  • This project addresses the problems leaders face in conveying their picture of an organization to the members of that organization. It uses a communication model called systems thinking which views an organization as an holistic unit. Component parts are seen in relationship to each other as well as to the organization as a whole. The organization must be seen in its environmental context. A systems model developed by Stafford Beer is selected. Beer's model identifies the functions of a system and demonstrates their relationship. It portrays the channels which enable the expression of variety. This paper identifies the functions of a local church as revealed in the Gospels and in the Book of Acts. These functions are applied to the system model which is adapted to a local church organization. The model accommodates variations in the size of the church.
