Abstract
  • Youth have a responsibility for furthering the reign of God yet older adolescents increasingly are leaving the Catholic community. This project was constructed to test whether the vision of the Beloved Community, preached by Jesus as the reign of God, and appropriated by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in the 1960s, could be a compelling vision for ministry among Catholic youth, ages 15-18. Study participants theologized about ministry among older adolescents and articulated elements for a vision that suggested that parishes have to shift paradigms and seek the ideal of the Beloved community if they hope to reach older youth.
