Abstract
  • This project documents an eighteen-week group process during which two liturgies of word and sacrament were created for people passing through two major transitions in life -- death and marriage. These liturgies, for use in Sunday worship, are not a funeral or wedding as such, but attend to the emotional and spiritual issues inherent in those transitions. A brief liturgy of support for grieving families was also developed. The group process and the liturgies: 1)enhanced people's awareness of God's presence through the grieving process and in Christian marriage; 2) deepened worshippers' sense of connectedness with each other; and 3) made people feel cared for by the Sunday morning congregation.
