  • Can older women address the feminine images of God in a Bible study and derive any spiritual growth from it? I proposed to lead an already existing women's Bible study in a 15-week study to find out. The images used were derived from the book, The Divine Feminine: The Biblical Imagery of God as Female by Virginia Ramey Mollenkott. The biblical part of the study itself was preceded by a three-week discussion on faith journeys and current images of God. The actual Bible study itself took twelve weeks and each session was taped. The class completed an evaluation form immediately following the study, as well as a follow-up questionnaire one year later. There was little permanent adoption of feminine images of God, but an enormous shift in openness to new ideas and willingness to wrestle with theological issues.
