Abstract
  • This study surveyed over 100 individuals across the United States who experienced the pastoral internship as part of their seminary formation. They were asked what they found to be difficult and enriching during internship. Data gained through questionnaires, journal exercises, and interviews provided a narrative and anecdotal commentary of their experiences. Mutual accountability, ethical responsibility, and the nature of the intern-supervisor relationship surfaced as areas of concern. Lastly, the study notes the need for the Catholic field education community to develop a model of supervision that will addresss the unique experience of the internship.
