Abstract
  • This study investigated the effects of a transformational system model on the creation of a new vision for the church usher as minister. Ushers at the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan were selected to participate in a twelve-week treatment consisting of activities comprised of self-directed learning, critical reflection, and transformative learning. The Levitical priesthood and their temple ministry were used to develop the theological model. The results were a deepened spiritual commitment, an expanded understanding of the biblical and theological foundation for ushering, and an increased desire to participate in ushering as ministry. Results of the study demonstrated change through systemic process.
