Abstract
  • Pastoral persona, the pastor's public image, is a powerful tool that, misused or ignored, can wreak havoc on the preacher's ability to effectively communicate a message. Conversely, an effectively managed pastoral persona can actually aid in the communication of a message. This project explores the issue and offers strategies for effectively managing pastoral persona. The project surveys scholarship on the subject of rhetoric, a study of celebrity preachers, and the results of two focus groups held to explore issues of pastoral persona with mid career pastors and with seminary students. Strategies for effective management of the pastoral persona are included.
