Abstract
  • This monograph evaluates an earlier study, published as TEE in Japan (Sprunger 1981). It focuses on Mennonite work and problems faced regarding a lack of leaders, of growth, and of goals. Case studies and questionnaires are used. In 1980, theological education by extension (geographical extension by a recognized institution) for both laypersons and leaders was proposed as a feasible solution. In 1990, the basic situation having changed little, TEE is still seen as valid. But several other options exist, such as Mennonites in Japan starting their own program, or getting courses and faculty into key schools. Other denominations may find application.
