Abstract
  • The purpose of this project, From mission statement to discipleship: facilitating a mission statement in a local church, was to study the mission statement of First United Methodist Church and the process that leads to discipleship. Through a series of sermons and a seven-week study using the book 'Resident aliens', terms, concepts, and ideas were explored connecting the mission statement and discipleship. Administrative board and church members were invited to participate (22 participants). Since the project was implemented, our average Sunday morning attendance increased by twenty percent. First Church has an understanding of mission and discipleship.
