Abstract
  • This paper describes use of liturgy drawing on the language of science to determine whether such liturgy might bridge Christian theology and the scientific world. The paper considers the functions of Christian liturgy and the history of Christian attitudes toward science, then describes the development of a liturgy including the Lord's Supper, and its test use within seven congregations of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Pre- and post-service questionnaires completed by worshippers seemed to indicate that some had experienced a shaping of their understanding of the relationship between science and the Christian faith through use of the liturgy.
