Alternative Title
  • The use of a church-sponsored auto repair program as a hobby and a tool for ministry
Abstract
  • The operating premise of this experiment in ministry was that the church-sponsored auto repair club, whose main purpose was to provide time, place, skills, and equipment for persons interested in a do-it-yourself auto repair hobby, might possibly have an effective secondary purpose of serving as common ground on which people of differing age, race, and religious inclination could build rapport with each other. 'Tools' for evaluating that premise included: critical reviews by participants and observers, certain elements of black theology, and a Christian transformist's view of culture. To a limited extent, this rapport-building did occur, and to that degree the program is commendable.
