Abstract
  • This thesis utilizes family systemic and cognitive-behavioral theories to discover the reasons people in families forgive or will not forgive each other. Research into why people do or do not forgive was made through personal interviews, questionnaires and literature search. The family unit as a system was reviewed and three therapeutic counseling methods designed to bring forth forgiveness were examined. Data revealed realistic actions that can be taken to improve pastoral counseling and provide for healing among family members. The data shows that the home and church do a poor job in teaching and modeling forgiveness.
