Abstract
  • This project proposes that literature, particularly short fiction, can be useful to parish pastors in discovering and attempting to modify the conceptual metaphors by which people live. To demonstrate the utility of story as metaphor the project offers two original stories that illustrate issues related to the theology of justification as they translate certain aspects of this doctrine into a larger metaphor involving character, plot, and setting. Story as metaphor speaks the language of deeper levels of human experience and understanding and so enriches a pastor's ministry.
