  • This project investigates and analyzes domestic violence directed at Japanese women in and out of the church from a Japanese feminist perspective, through a self-help group for women working out the difficulties resulting from codependent attitudes. Culture and religion have imposed on women a 'necessity' to endure violence at home. Self-help groups seek healing and self-awareness for these women, based on their personal experiences and on an examination of the 'addictive' nature of Japanese society. Trusting in their feelings by honest disclosure, women in self-help groups can build a community of love in which they may encounter 'a power greater than ourselves' who is living among them.
