Abstract
  • This paper addresses the management of a seven-month hostage crisis by a mission agency. It seeks to answer the question: 'Looking at the hostage crisis, what lessons are there to be learned by the mission in managing such a crisis?' The project makes use of relevant literature, materials related to the crisis, and interviews with involved personnel to answer this question. The study shows that, while the mission had worthwhile policies in place before the crisis struck and worked valiantly in the midst of the crisis, more could have been done beforehand to be prepared.
