- Rev. Koch proposes that there are six fundamental principles involved in the transformation of an ethnic-specific congregation. They are strong pastoral leadership, congregational context, community context, engagement in community, stated vision, and a willingness to take risks. He uses, as his case study, the transformation of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Chicago, IL which was founded by Swedish immigrants in 1892 and has become a community church relating primarily to young professionals (singles, couples, and families) and homosexual persons from the neighborhood.
