Abstract

There has been a serious absence of literature written for ministry to first year married couples. Recognition of the need for church ministry to this group prompted this study. Literature from the marriage enrichment movement was studies. A more intense study of two enrichment programs, National Marriage Encounter and the Association of Couples for Marriage Enrichment (ACME), included the examination of their manuals, newsletters and periodicals. Experiential data was obtained from existing literature as well as the writer's and his wife's involvement in marriage enrichment programs. The writer personally interviewed national leaders of both National Marriage Encounter and ACME. A transcription of these interviews is included. The marriage enrichment movement can provide important resources, such as programs, literature, and theory, to church leaders for ministry to recently married couples. The programs in both National Marriage Encounter and ACME could be adapted for use with newlyweds and two other programs developed specifically for first year married couples are presented. Included are annotations of 106 books, manuals, and theses.
