Abstract
  • This project proposes workable and purposeful guidelines for effective teaching of the Bible in local congregations, based on interviews with 31 church members between the ages of 18 and 95 in four United Church of Canada congregations. These guidelines bridge the gap between the 'Liberation/Transformation' hermeneutics offered in theological education and the 'Caring/Respect' hermeneutics emphasized by church members, in order to restore the Bible to its rightful place in the forefront of the church's worship, administration, and congregational life.
