Abstract

This project is a Ministry Research project on the transition of leadership and focused on the seventy-five Southern Baptist churches associated with the Morgan Baptist Association located in Hartselle, Alabama. The issue of leadership transition is becoming of more frequent concern within the local church. The continual growth in leadership turnover is causing traumatic experiences for not only the pastor in transition, but for the church congregation as well. While it is true that there exists a multitude of various resource guides, books, and strategies on the topic of leadership transition, many pastors and church congregations are still finding themselves unprepared and ill-equipped to endure a leadership transition of a pastor or ministerial leader without bearing some form of traumatic experience. The purpose of this project is to assist the local church body to be better prepared for a change in leadership by providing an effective leadership plan for a transition of leadership. This project seeks to combine both literary research and personal interview data so the final product will be of benefit as a resource tool for pastors and the local church.
