Abstract
  • This dissertation focuses on the organizational defenses that will inhibit even the best-intended attempts at synagogue transformation. It discusses seven commonly used strategies, 'dysfunctional habits', that provide short term success at the expense of long-term effectiveness. It rests on the insights and application of Action Science to the world of congregational re-visioning and management. The dissertation makes extensive use of case study material and provides a generalizable intervention model designed to support learning and promote competence.
