Abstract
  • This thesis looks at the question of teaching beauty as a theological value. In this project, an intertextual reading of the Song of Songs unfolds a beauty that is objective, that reveals the distance of delight between God and creation. This project examines the theological perspectives of Saint Augustine, Jonathan Edwards, and David Bentley Hart, all of who work toward trinitarian theologies of beauty. Engaging beauty was an interdisciplinary course designed and taught at Geneva College, with the goal of developing in students some conscious recognition of how beauty has been spoken of with Jonathan Edwards as the central voice.
