Abstract
  • The author researched the tension between the first and second generation African immigrants over the use of vernacular in worship. The study focuses on African congregations in the ELCA using the Oromo Evangelical Church as a case study. Oromo migration and the Missio Dei, Ethiopia's language policy and its impacts on Oromo language, conquest and incorporation of Oromo into the Ethiopian empire, and history of the Oromo Bible translation and persecution of evangelical Christians in Ethiopia were researched. The research is qualitative in nature and used case study as the method of inquiry.
