Abstract
  • This project examines the role of state Bible societies in New England. The paper begins with a historical overview of the origins of the Bible Society movement, with a particular view to New England, and the development of state Bible societies from 1809 to the present, drawn primarily from original source materials. The project analyses the mission statements and activities of the Bible societies and considers the issues facing those agencies today. The research shows that the Bible societies have had an effective ministry through their close connection to churches and their commitment to serve the whole Church.
