Abstract
  • In this doctoral project a qualitative study was undertaken to consider how parishioners understand and experience the doctrine of entire sanctification in the context of the Marseilles, Illinois Church of the Nazarene. Through a sermon series, a focus group Bible study, and questionnaires, the project sought to discover biblical and theological correspondence with the denomination's position. The key conclusion of the research was that with some exception there was among the congregation congruence with the denomination's doctrinal statement on a vital teaching that seems unpopular or unwelcome in the current climate of 'felt-needs' ministry. The project report established a variety of ways in which the Church of the Nazarene can return to and experience the teaching of entire sanctification as its passion and reason for existence.
