Abstract
  • The thesis of this project is that pastors can communicate more effectively with lay persons concerning controversial issues in global justice by using a dialogical (indirect) style of teaching, rather than an authoritarian (direct) style. The author uses a control group and two study groups. Only the latter two groups receive instruction. The Flanders-Amidon style descriptions are used with those two groups. The project tests two variables: awareness and attitude. For the first, the research supports the thesis. For the second, it does not. The research indicates that much more than teaching style is involved in effecting attitudinal change in lay persons.
