Abstract
  • This project studies the religious experiences of six pastoral psychotherapists who describe how they transformed the felt-meaning of the raw experiences into symbolic expressions that served as religious resources in their personal and professional lives. Seven general patterns or cultural scenes reflected how a process emerged where the generativity of the felt-meaning of the religious experience was transformed through five stages which result in symbolized re-representation of an encounter with mystery. With the transformation of meaning there was also a concurrent shift in world view, specifically in one's belief system.
