Abstract
  • Research and experience with Bible use in pastoral care led to a proposal that lay volunteers learn to use the parables of Jesus in caring ministry to aid helpees in telling their story as a means to order in their lives. Volunteers trained in parable use with helpees and in verbatim-writing evaluated that use. Infrequent opportunity for Bible use with helpees by volunteer ministers did not provide the experience or justify the training needed to maintain proficiency. Much was learned about New Testament interpretation and use of the Bible in pastoral care was confirmed and improved.
