- Abstract
- This project applies Mary Douglas's grid and group matrix to the cultures of three congregations in the eastern US--suburban Baptist; inner-city, African American Pentecostal; and upscale, independent Evangelical--in order to discern traits in church environments that effectively overcome the secular American influence that inhibits faithful praying. Supracultural characteristics held in common by these churches help their members become faithful in prayer.
