- Abstract
- This project's purpose is to study and ascertain if parish ministers in one district of the western North Carolina of the United Methodist Church care for themselves well enough to have resources to enable them to pastor their charges successfully through crisis. Research was conducted through a combination of questionnaires and personal interviews with pastors within the Gastonia district. Additionally, interviews were conducted with persons in various positions of responsibility within conference hierarchy. The resulting recommendations for the local church, the annual conference and the pastor are intended to enhance the pastor's health and ability to continue in relationship with the congregation. The final recommendation is that pastors be responsible for maintaining their own health in order to remain effective in ministry.
