Abstract
  • Solidarity with the homeless can be effected through personal interaction. This study has made its first priority the personal dimensions of service. The project describes the interaction of a church community with a local homeless population. The goal was to establish a rapport with the homeless characterized by mutual trust. Every creative notion was considered with the understanding that responses to the homeless condition could not be generalized. The quality of the connections was high, however the numbers participating were small. A commitment to personal integrity and the belief in human dignity are necessary ingredients for authentic solidarity.
