Abstract

Pastoral counseling with a client who is experiencing grief, complicated by post-traumatic stress disorder, is a challenge rarely addressed in clinical training or study, or in the literature. This project focuses on the case study of a particular client and upon the indications for a beneficial treatment modality. The process of her complicated grief is explored from the perspective of overlying post-traumatic stress. A treatment modality developed by Therese A. Rando is used to explore and evaluate the therapy for this client, which results in new approaches incorporated by the pastoral counselor.
