Abstract
  • The focus of this thesis-project is the development of programming which intentionally addressed the leadership gifts and challenges experienced by those who are the diocese of Bismarck's core catechetical leaders: rural women who do not have a college academic preparation. The situation of the diocese of Bismark is similar to most rural dioceses in the United States. Integrating gender studies, rural sociology, rural catechetical ministry and contemporary leadership theory, this thesis-project maintains that leadership development uniquely focused for women in rural catechetical ministry will increase their sense of self as leader and leadership practices. The study gives voice to rural women involved in catechetical ministry as they expressed themselves in various sessions. Practical conclusions and implications are suggested.
