Abstract
  • Mature play, a deeply spiritual act of faith which occurs within the liminial space between fantasy and reality and springs from the unconflicted flowing synthesis of two inherent urges, sensation and organization, is explored through the perspectives of Freud, Jung, Winnicott, Neal, Progoff, Gendlin and Meister Eckhart. This theoretical structure is informed and integrated by experiences of play from primary research, case study, art and active imagining and weaves a dialogue between psychology and theology, between scholarship and experience, and between the author's story, her patients' stories and the larger story of redemptive love and grace.
